Check your Deck: Is it time for a refresh?

To keep your deck in tip-top shape, it's generally recommended that you re-oil it at least once a year. But let's face it, we all have those things on our to-do list that never seem to get done. In the hustle and bustle of life, maintaining your timber deck’s coating timber coating can easily get pushed to the bottom of the list.

Keep an eye out for these tell-tale signs that your timber deck needs some love:

  1. Discoloured, patchy or fading timber (caused by harsh conditions eg UV rays, wind, rain)
  2. Cracks and splintering – this means the timber is starting to dry out
  3. Mould and fungi – may lead to wood rot so jump on it now!

Use the ‘water bead test’ to see if your existing surface is ready for a recoat. It’s super easy and only takes a minute!

Sprinkle a few drops of water onto your timber surface - if water beads sit on top of the timber, your timer deck will need further weathering or sanding before recoating. If the water beads soak in, you're ready to recoat for protection, a certain level of waterproofing -  and to keep that timber looking tip-top.

That’s it!
