The Trend Setters: Inspirations' Top Paint Colours for 2010
As 2010 draws to a close, Inspirations Paint & Colour, Australia’s largest and leading network of paint specialist stores, is looking back on a successful year and the paint and colour trends that emerged from it.
The exclusive customer loyalty program of Inspirations Paint & Colour, the Colour Clique, records the paint colours customers purchase Australia wide, providing a unique insight into the colour trends in Australian households.
Top Whites/Neutrals
Predictably, the white and neutral palette dominated paint colour choices again in 2010, with Dulux Hog Bristle, Antique White USA and Vivid White occupying the top three spots. This trend is to be expected, with whites and neutrals essential to most painting projects and colours reserved for more decorative elements of the home.
“The demand for whites has increased over the years with people desiring more options when it comes to choosing the perfect white or neutral for their home. Using whites throughout the home creates fresh, open spaces with richer colours reserved for feature walls, soft furnishings and artwork to add impact and depth.” said Inspirations’ National Marketing Manager Joel Goodsir.
“White and light neutrals are always a popular choice, as it achieves a clean and fresh result in any modern or traditional home. Whites and light neutrals also provide a blank canvas to create whatever look, feel or ambience you imagine as almost any furniture piece will match up well to a white or neutral wall”, said Lisa Christie Inspirations Colour Consultant.
Top Colours
Deep grey hues overwhelmingly dominated this year’s list of top colours with six of the top ten falling into this category, Dulux Namadji and Berger Octavious Oak were two of the favourites. Interestingly, Dulux Red Box, a bold and vibrant red, topped the list showing Australian’s are open to being adventurous with colour.
“Dark paint colors can really make a bold statement and can actually breathe new life into a room. Many people are embracing the dramatic and elegant effect a deep paint colour can make, especially when combined with those lovely whites. Feature walls are still going strong and enable you to change your look from season to season, concluded Lisa Christie.
Inspirations Paint & Colour reviews the most popular paint colours at the end of each year. This provides a valuable insight into colour and design directions, as trends evolve year on year rather than changing overnight.
