Temp Tips Part 1: Painting in the Heat

Sometimes the harsh Aussie weather can wreak havoc, especially on our upcycling paint projects. Choosing the best time to paint is important not only to get the best finish on your project, but also to make sure the paint performs as its designed to.

Did you know the optimal temperature to paint is between 10°c and 35°c?

There’s a bit more to painting than just grabbingsome tools in your nearest paint shop. Painting when it’s too hot can also affect the durability of the paint, leading to blistering and peeling paint in the future. It can cause the paint to dry too quickly leaving a patchy or streaky finish. And it doesn’t matter if we’re talking about ceiling, wall, or concrete paint.

If you’re painting in the sun, be mindful the surface could be up to 10°c hotter than the air temperature. When doing your upcycling project, stick to the shaded areas and follow the shade if possible.

Remember, if it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to paint!
