How To Spray Paint a Metal Screen Door

The mesh on your screen door looking a little tired, worn and rough around the edges? Don’t replace the door, give it a quick glow up with this easy DIY spray paint project and save yourself hundreds. Check out the steps below or skip to the bottom of the page for the full how-to video.

What you need:

• A drop sheet to cover surfaces
• Selleys Sugar Soap
• Bucket
• Scotch Brite Pad
• Painter's Tape
• Dulux Metalshield Etch Primer (we used Black)
• Dulux Metalshield Epoxy Enamel (we used Satin Black)

The Process:

1. Remove the door from hinges.

2. Thoroughly clean both sides of the screen with Sugar Soap and a Scotch Brite pad.

3. Hose down and leave to completely dry.
4. Tape up the edges of the door frame and handle with painter's tape.

5. Spray several mist coats of Dulux Metalshield Etch Primer to both sides of the door, allowing each side to dry before turning over.

6. Once the primer is completely dry, apply several mist coats of Dulux Metalshield Epoxy Enamel.

7. Once dry remove tape and rehang door.
