How To Coat A Timber Retaining Wall
Timber retaining walls are a common feature of the Aussie backyard, but with timber comes the necessity of maintenance with timber stains and oils. Like a deck, most timber exposed to the outdoor elements will require a fresh coat of stain or oil every 18 months. If you’re unsure whether you need a stain or oil, you can read Our Guide to Choosing The Right Coating For Your Deck and when we say deck, we also mean exterior timber!
So, if you’re ready to give your timber retaining walls some TLC, you can do so in just 2 simple steps. Here’s how:
Step 1:
Fill any holes in the timber with Intergrain Woodblend. Wipe away excess filler with a damp cloth. Allow 2 hours to dry before sanding smooth.
Step 2:
Apply 2-3 coats of your chosen timber coating to the retaining wall. Allow to dry between coats. We are using Intergrain UltraDeck Timber Stain in Merbau.
And there you have it! The procrastination to start is longer than the actual painting, we promise!
If you’ve caught the exterior paint project bug, take it to the next level with a painted textured wall or give your deck some love and re-coat it in 3 easy steps.
