How To Hack A Kmart Wave Shelf
We love a Kmart painting hack. They’re a quick, cheap and easy way to customise boring furniture or shelving, transforming them into a stunning piece of home décor. And when we say quick and easy. We mean it. In just 3 simple steps, you can take the Kmart wave shelf and turn it into something special. Here’s how:
Step 1: Sand
Start by sanding down your shelves with 120 grit sandpaper to dull the smooth finish of the laminate surface. This is essential to ensure the primer and paint stick to the surface. Next, wipe away any dust from the shelves with a microfibre cloth.
Step 2: Prime
Apply 1x coat of Dulux Precision Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer to the shelves with a brush and allow to dry completely. We recommend this primer for tough-to-paint surfaces such as laminate. This will give your topcoat the best surface to stick to, meaning a long-lasting finish for your shelves.
Step 3: Paint
Finally, apply 2x coats of your chosen sample pot colour to the shelves with a brush. We are using Berger Dorinda Dark for our shelves. Allow your first coat to dry fully before moving on to the second.
And that’s it. All that’s left is to hang the shelves, sit back and marvel in your DIY ability (great job… you deserve it).
