How To Paint A Stripe Wall
Stripes are back and they’re trending hard. Our feed has been blowing up with stripe feature walls. From bold colour-blocked statements to soft, tonal accents, there’s plenty of projects to be inspired by. But getting the perfect stripe wall can be tricky. That’s why we’ve put together this simple guide to achieving this trending interior design look.
Here’s how you paint a stripe wall:
Step 1: Clean
Start with a clean, smooth surface. Wipe down the wall to remove dust and grime, then fill any holes or cracks with filler. Once dry, sand the area until it’s flush with the wall. For any repaired areas, spot prime with Dulux 1Step Prep and allow to dry. This prep work is key to achieving crisp, professional-looking stripes.
Step 2: Measure
Decide how many stripes you want and how wide they’ll be. Measure the stripes. To prevent marking the wall with pencil, we recommend masking your trims with masking tape before measuring. This way, you can mark the tape, not the wall.
Step 3: Tape
Apply masking tape along the outside edges of each stripe. Take your time here. Accurate taping makes all the difference.
Step 4: Bleed Seal
Before painting your chosen top coat, you need to bleed seal the tape with the base wall colour. This is the key to achieving crisp, clean lines (a must for any stripe wall). Allow to dry.
Step 5: Paint
Apply 2 coats of your chosen colour to the stripes. Cut in with a brush along the top and bottom of the wall before rolling. Allow to dry between coats.
Step 6: Remove Tape
While the paint is still slightly tacky, gently peel off the tape at a 45-degree angle. This helps avoid tearing and ensures a clean edge. Let the stripes dry completely before styling your space.
Whether you're refreshing a bedroom, hallway or home office, painting stripes is a simple way to add personality and polish to your space. And with the right products and advice from your local Inspirations Paint store, you’ll be on your way to achieving the stripe wall of your dreams.
