How To Refresh Outdoor Timber Furniture
Refreshing outdoor timber furniture involves cleaning, light sanding, applying a timber cleaner, rinsing, drying fully, then finishing with a suitable exterior timber oil or varnish.
What you need
How to Do It
Step 1: Clean outdoor timber furniture to remove dirt and mould
Start by removing any surface dirt or grime from the timber furniture. We used a pressure washer, however a strong hose will do the trick. Allow to dry fully.
Step 2: Lightly sand weathered timber
Once dry, give your furniture a light sand to smooth out any rough patches and remove any remaining residue.
Step 3: Apply timber cleaner to damp wood
Before applying the Intergrain UltraPrep Timber Cleaner, wet the timber furniture down with a hose.
Step 4: Clean (Again)
Apply Intergrain UltraPrep Timber Cleaner with a stiff brush or broom, scrubbing thoroughly. Clean complete sections at one time. Spot cleaning should be avoided to prevent patchy results. Leave the cleaning mixture on the timber for 10-15 minutes.
Expert Tip – Use Intergrain UltraPrep Timber Cleaner out of direct sunlight. For the best results, the timber should remain damp throughout the 10-15 minute period.
Step 5: Rinse timber cleaner to remove residue
Rinse the timber furniture thoroughly with a hose to remove all traces of the cleaner. Then, allow the timber to dry completely (This is crucial before moving on to staining or varnishing).
Step 6: Stain or Varnish timber
Apply your chosen stain or varnish evenly to the timber furniture brush or applicator pad. We recommend Intergrain UltraDeck Timber Oil. This will protect your furniture from moisture, UV damage and general wear, while enhancing its natural beauty.
Refreshing your outdoor timber furniture doesn’t just improve its appearance, it extends its life and keeps your outdoor space looking polished and inviting all year round.
