How to paint a water damaged ceiling
Water damage on your ceiling is rarely a good sign in your home. Even after the leak is fixed and the roof is repaired, the remaining stains are an eyesore. Luckily, with the right products and our expert advice, your ceiling will look brand new in no time.
Here’s how, in just 3 steps, you can paint your water damaged ceiling:
Step 1: Repair the leak
Before you start painting, it’s essential to fix the source of the problem. Whether it’s a small hole in the roof, a burst pipe or condensation, repairing the leak first will prevent the stain from reappearing.
Step 2: Prime
Apply 1x coat of a stain blocking primer to the ceiling. We recommend Dulux Precision High Opacity Stain Blocker. Water stains can bleed through regular primer, so a specialist stain blocking primer is a must. Allow it to dry fully before moving on.
Step 3: Paint
Once the primer is dry, apply 2x coats of Dulux Ceiling White to the ceiling. Start by cutting in around the edges before rolling. Allow the first coat to dry fully before applying the second.
Painting over a water damaged ceiling (like most painting) is all about preparation. By repairing the leak, priming with a stain blocking primer and finishing with Dulux Ceiling White from your local Inspirations Paint store, you’ll achieve an amazing finish that’ll keep your ceiling looking great for many years to come.
